Question: (Daily part reference c578W) What research he has (a) commissioned and (b) evaluated into the use of economic measures in environmental policy.

Answer: Mrs. Helen Jackson: To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what research he has (a) commissioned and (b) evaluated into the use of economic measures in environmental policy. [7155] Mr. Clappison: Research is routinely used when considering economic measures in environmental policies as, for example, with the landfill tax. Other recent and continuing areas of research include the use; of market-based measures to address sulphur emissions, the environmental effects of pesticide use and volatile organic compounds.
