Question: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, by what date he expects to implement the recommendations of H.M. Chief Inspector of Prisons relating to (a) the provision of extra work places for prisoners, (b) additional funding for evening classes, (c) weekend drug testing and (d) additional places on drug-free wings at HM Prison, Acklington.

Answer: Mr. Beith: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department by what date he expects to implement the recommendations of H.M. Chief Inspector of Prisons relating to (a) the provision of extra work places for prisoners, (b) additional funding for evening classes, (c) weekend drug testing and (d) additional places on drug-free wings at HM Prison, Acklington. [21622] Ms Quin: Weekend drug testing has already been introduced. The report was published on 11 December and the governor will produce an action plan within 30 working days of this date which will address all the Chief Inspector's recommendations. Those mentioned in the Question require funding, and bids are currently being considered. These will have to be prioritised against other demands.
