Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what plans he has to ensure that his proposals for legal aid reform will not prevent patients pursuing medical negligence claims.

Answer: Mr. Simon Hughes: To ask the Secretary of State for Health what plans he has to ensure that his proposals for legal aid reform will not prevent patients pursuing medical negligence claims. [16633] Mr. Milburn: When my noble Friend the Lord Chancellor announced the Government's proposals for the reform of the legal aid system in October, he made it clear that he intends to consult widely before any changes are implemented. The position of the patients pursuing claims for medical negligence will be considered as part of this consultation.
