Answer: Mr. Cohen: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement about progress with the planning application for the prison ship in Portland; and what permissions have been granted for its continued mooring there. [21412] Miss Widdecombe: Responsibility for this matter has been delegated to the Director General of the Prison Service, who has been asked to arrange for a reply to be given. Letter from Richard Tilt to Mr. Harry Cohen, dated 21 March 1997: The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent Question about the planning application for the prison ship in Portland. Portland Port Limited has leased to the Prison Service a temporary berth until a decision is reached by the Secretary of State for the Environment on the notice of proposed development. A meeting to consider the issues has been arranged by the Department of Environment for 20 March.
