Question: If Highlands and Islands Enterprise has authorisation to fund removal of the proposed Cairngorm funicular in the event of its failure. - Inc fact that yet to complete consideration of the request from Highlands and Islands Enterprise for approval of its proposed financial contribution to the cost of the funicular railway project.

Answer: Mr. Galbraith: To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if Highlands and Islands Enterprise has authorisation to fund removal of the proposed Cairn Gorm funicular in the event of its failure. [21195] Mr. Kynoch: My right hon. Friend has yet to complete his consideration of the request from Highlands and Islands Enterprise for approval of its proposed financial contribution to the cost of the funicular railway project. He is awaiting further information from Highlands and Islands Enterprise on the impact of the recently agreed visitors management regime on the project's financial projections. In considering the request for approval, my right hon. Friend will wish to be satisfied as to the financial viability of the project.
