Question: What regulations govern the tail docking of dogs. - The Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 was amended in 1991 to remove the right of non-veterinarians to dock dogs tails. (Holding answer 18 March 1997).

Answer: Mr. Gordon Prentice: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what regulations govern the tail docking of dogs; and if he will make a statement. [20957] Mr. Sackville: [holding answer 18 March 1997]: The Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 was amended in 1991 to remove the right of non-veterinarians to dock dogs' tails. Since July 1993, it has been an offence for a person other than a veterinary surgeon to dock a dog's tail for any reason.
