- What steps were taken to ensure that the dogs acquired from sources (a) within the European Union and (b) outside the European Union used in scientific procedures during 1995 were purpose bred. - The provenance of imported dogs is routinely checked. In 1995, all such dogs were purpose-bred for laboratory use. (Holding answer 17 March 1997).

Mr. Tony Banks: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps were taken to ensure that the dogs acquired from sources (a) within the European Union and (b) outside the European Union used in scientific procedures during 1995 were purpose bred.
