Question: What assessment he has made of the present humanitarian situation in Kenya. - Inc fact that Government have provided emergency assistance totalling £3.9 million through Oxfam and the world Food Programme.

Answer: Mr. Tony Lloyd: To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assessment he has made of the present humanitarian situation in Kenya; and if he will make a statement. [20971] Dr. Liam Fox: Much of Kenya is currently experiencing drought conditions, the worst affected areas being in eastern and north-eastern provinces. The British Government have provided emergency assistance totalling £3.9 million through Oxfam and the World Food Programme, mainly for the provision and distribution of food for pastoralist communities. The long rains, expected at this time, are now beginning to fall in some parts of the country. We are continuing to monitor the situation carefully.
