Answer: Mr. Sweeney: To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how much rate support grant the Welsh Office (a) provided to the Vale of Glamorgan in 1996-97 and (b) plans to provide in 1997-98. [20527] Mr. Gwilym Jones: The rate support grant system was replaced in 1990-91 by one that provides central Government support to local authority revenue expenditure by way of revenue support grant and redistributed non-domestic rates.
