Question: Statement on special provision for the Isles of Scilly under the homelessness legislation. - Inc fact that Secretary of State has made an order which relieves the Council of the Isles of Scilly of an obligation to rehouse persons applying for assistance who have not resided in that authority's area for at least two and a half years of the last three years.

Answer: Mr. Harris: To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make special provision for the Isles of Scilly under the homelessness legislation; and if he will make a statement. [20515] Mr. Curry: In view of the unique situation of the Isles of Scilly, namely its small scale and limited resources, the Secretary of State has made an order under section 225 of the Housing Act 1996 which relieves the Council of the Isles of Scilly of an obligation to rehouse persons applying for assistance under part VII of the Housing Act 1996 who have not resided in that authority's area for at least two-and-a-half years of the last three years.
