Sir Jerry Wiggin: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will instruct police forces that when a blood sample is taken after an accident and tested for alcohol that it should also be treated for drugs; and if he will make a statement. [17451] Mr. Maclean: No. The decision on what action to take in each case is a matter for the police officer concerned. In the case of an alleged offence under section 3A or 4 of the Road Traffic Act 1988, a blood sample can be taken with the consent of a medical practitioner and be tested for drugs and alcohol.
