Answer: Mr. Goggins: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what his assessment is of the impact of random drug tests in prison. [61116] Mr. George Howarth: Drug testing is an integral part of the Prison Service's drug strategy. It provides an indication of the level of drug misuse in prisons and a deterrent to those who may be tempted to use drugs. It is a valuable part of a package of measures to combat drug misuse. In May, I announced a new strategy for testing which provides for a more targeted approach.
