Mr. Coaker: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what plans he has to increase the number of literacy summer schools. [34925] Mr. Byers: My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State recently announced at the Secondary Heads Association conference that we will expand the Summer Literacy Schools scheme. It will grow from 50 schools last summer to 562 this summer with 503 being LEA-maintained, 57 grant-maintained and 2 independent schools.
