Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment, what assessment he has made of the amount which further education colleges receive for the education of college students funded under the Further Education Funding Council's regulations relative to the amount which they receive for those funded by the New Deal. - (Holding answer 11 November 1998).

Answer: Mr. Don Foster: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what assessment he has made of the amount which further education colleges receive for the education of college students funded under the Further Education Funding Council's regulations relative to the amount which they receive for those funded by the New Deal. [59178] Mr. Mudie: [holding answer 11 November 1998]: My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State has not made a detailed assessment. Organisations wishing to deliver education and training provision in the Full-Time Education and Training (FTET) option of the New Deal for 18-24 year olds bid for contracts with the Employment Service, on the basis of competitive tendering. FE Colleges, along with other training providers, made a judgment on the level of funding they needed to deliver provision against the requirements in the New Deal specification. Contracts have been signed for 3 years, and will be reviewed during this period.
