Answer

Mrs. Ann Winterton: To ask the Secretary of State for Health how much extra funding has been made available to area health authorities for the provision of mammograms for women over 65 years of age. [59655] Mr. Hutton: The National Health Service breast screening programme was set up in 1988. Women aged 50-64 are invited for screening by mammography every three years and women over the age of 64 may request to be screened every three years free of charge. Provision for screening women over the age of 65 is included in health authority baseline resources and is not therefore specifically identified.
