- To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, how many superstores and supermarkets of the single storey uncompartmentalised warehouse type of (a) over 2,000 square metres and (b) over 4,000 square metres were built in (i) 1990 to 1995, (ii) 1996, (iii) 1997 and (iv) 1998 to date. - Includes figure and ref to Commercial and Industrial Floorspace Statistics 1995.

Ms Kingham: To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions how many superstores and supermarkets of the single storey uncompartmentalised warehouse type of (a) over 2,000 square metres and (b) over 4,000 square metres were built in (i) 1990 to 1995, (ii) 1996, (iii) 1997 and (iv) 1998 to date. [57674] Mr. Raynsford: The information in the form requested is not available; however the number of shops and restaurants in England and Wales with a floorspace of over 500m{2 }was published in the `Commercial and Industrial Floorspace Statistics 1995'. The survey showed for the year 1994, the total number of hereditaments by this description was 24,100.
