Question: Statement about the date of the ordinary elections to community councils in Wales in 1999.

Answer: Ms Lawrence: To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make a statement about the date of the ordinary elections to community councils in Wales in 1999. [56675] Mr. Ron Davies: I propose to make an order under section 3(4) of the Government of Wales Act 1998 to move the date of ordinary elections of community councillors in Wales from 6 May to 10 June 1999. The community council elections will be held on the same date as the European Parliamentary elections with which they will be combined. The order will also make provision for moving the date of the annual meeting of councils.
