Mr. Gale: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will bring forward proposals to strengthen the controls and procedures for vetting those employed and working directly or indirectly with children and young people; and if he will make a statement. [55453] Mr. Michael: On 4 June 1998, Official Report, columns 304-05, I announced the establishment of an Interdepartmental Working Group on Preventing Unsuitable People from Working with Children and Abuse of Trust. The Group has made a good start on its work and has been asked to make recommendations by the end of the year.
