Question: To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what plans the Department has to regulate noise nuisance from East Midlands Airport if the airport obtains permission to extend its activities. - Inc ref to White Paper "A New Deal for Transport".

Answer: Mr. Todd: To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what plans the Department has to regulate noise nuisance from East Midlands Airport if the airport obtains permission to extend its activities. [53343] Ms Glenda Jackson: None. It is our policy that noise nuisance from airports should, wherever possible, be discussed and resolved locally. The planning system allows measures for alleviation of noise associated with new development to be agreed where appropriate. We announced in the White Paper "A New Deal for Transport" our intention to consult on detailed proposals for legislation on aircraft noise.
