- To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what action his Department is taking to discover methods of treatment for people who may be infected with new-variant CJD; and what reports he has received regarding chemicals which can prevent the transmission of spongiform encephalopathies, with particular reference to (a) potentially new-variant CJD from blood transfusion and (b) CJD from growth hormone; and what action his Department is taking to investigate the use of these chemicals. - Inc ref to Department of Health publication Strategy for Research and Development Relating to the Human Health Aspects of Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSEs).
