Question: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what is the proposed timescale for implementing the recommendations relating to vulnerable witnesses in the report Speaking up for Justice, June 1998.

Answer: Mr. Kidney: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the proposed timescale for implementing the recommendations relating to vulnerable witnesses in the report "Speaking up for Justice", June 1998. [48686] Mr. Michael: On 10 June we announced a period of consultation on all the recommendations in "Speaking up for Justice", the report of the Working Group on Vulnerable or Intimidated Witnesses. We will take action as quickly as possible to improve the way vulnerable or intimidated witnesses are treated in the criminal justice system in the light of comments received during the consultation period.
