Question: To ask the President of the Board of Trade, if she will list the food science research contracts allocated by (a) the Economic and Social Research Council, (b) the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, (c) the Medical Research Council and (d) the Natural Environment Research Council in (i) 1994-95, (ii) 1995-96, (iii) 1996-97 and (iv) 1997-98, broken down by (1) length of contract, (2) value of contract and (3) institution securing the contract. - Includes figures and refs to list of grants awarded by ESRC in the area of food and science and EPSRC, in Library. Answer: Mr. Charles Clarke: To ask the President of the Board of Trade if she will list the food science research contracts allocated by (a) the Economic and Social Research Council, (b) the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, (c) the Medical Research Council and (d) the Natural Environment Research Council in (i) 1994-95, (ii) 1995-96, (iii) 1996-97 and (iv) 1997-98, broken down by (1) length of contract, (2) value of contract and (3) institution securing the contract. [37948] Mr. Battle: [holding answer 6 April 1998]: A list of the grants awarded by the Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC) in the area of food science has been placed in the Library of the House. The Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) awarded 43 grants starting in the period 1/4/94 to 31/3/98 relevant to the food and drink industries and a list of these has also been placed in the Library of the House. The Medical Research Council and the Natural Environment Research Council do not fund research into food science.
