- In view of the fact that in 1995 84,659 girls under the legal age of consent were provided with contraceptives by their GP or birth control clinic, 8,000 of whom subsequently became pregnant, why the law was enforced, under Sections 5 and 6 of the Sexual Offences Act 1956, in only 195 cases for girls under 16, and 77 cases for girls under 13.
