Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland, What assessment he has made of the impact on the Scottish economy of the abolition of duty free within the European Union; and if he will make a statement. (Failed OPQ).

Answer: Mrs. McKenna: To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what assessment he has made of the sectors of the Scottish economy which will be affected by the abolition of duty free within the European Union. [91606] Mr. David Marshall: To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what assessment he has made of the impact on the Scottish economy of the abolition of duty free within the European Union; and if he will make a statement. [91615] Mr. Macdonald: The previous Government agreed to the abolition of duty free within the EU in 1991. We took steps to simplify the new regulations whenever possible to mitigate the impact on industry in Scotland, and elsewhere in the UK.
