Question
To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, when the Private Hire Vehicles (London) Act 1998 will be fully implemented; and if he will make a statement.
Answer

Dr. Tonge: To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions when the Private Hire Vehicles (London) Act 1998 will be fully implemented; and if he will make a statement. [103216] Mr. Hill: We intend to implement the Private Hire Vehicles (London) Act 1998 as quickly as possible. We consulted earlier this year, jointly with the Public Carriage Office, on the licensing of private hire vehicle operators in London. Having carefully considered the responses, we intend to conduct a further consultation with draft regulations as early as possible next year. Further consultations, also jointly with the Public Carriage Office, will follow on proposals for regulating private hire drivers and vehicles.
