- To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security, what undertakings were given by the Building Societies Association with regard to their policy on repossessions in return for the agreement of Her Majesty's Government in 1991 to pay income support for mortgage interest direct to lenders. - Inc ref to 201 c453-61, 19 December 1991.

Mr. Webb: To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what undertakings were given by the Building Societies Association with regard to their policy on repossessions in return for the agreement of Her Majesty's Government in 1991 to pay income support for mortgage interest direct to lenders. [96757] Mr. Bayley: A statement was made to the House of Commons on 19 December 1991 by the then Chancellor of the Exchequer. He stated that in response to DSS making payments direct to the lender, lenders have confirmed that they will not take possession in cases where mortgage interest payments are covered by Income Support.
