Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, if the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is on display within RUC stations; if the Patten Commission Report changes the policy of display of the sovereign's portrait; and if he will make a statement.

Answer: Mr. John D. Taylor: To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is on display within RUC stations; if the Patten Commission report changes the policy of display of the sovereign's portrait; and if he will make a statement. [94349] Mr. Ingram: The portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II can be on display in RUC stations, though the RUC have advised that there is no formal policy about displaying the portrait. The Patten Commission did not make any specific reference to this issue in its report, however, it did recommend that the police service should maintain a `neutral working environment'. This proposal, as with all the other recommendations, is part of the current consultation process.
