Mr. Rogers: To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what was the local reference rent for (a) a self-contained one bedroomed flat and (b) a single room in a shared accommodation for each local authority in Wales on 1 April. [93128] Mr. Jon Owen Jones: Data is compiled by the DETR on behalf of the eight Rent Registration Areas in Wales which are largely based on the former county council areas. The latest published figures from that source are for quarter ended September 1998. The following data have been compiled as at 1 April by direct reference to the eight Rent Offices in Wales and has been provided as a guide only. The information is not collected in the way it has been requested. Information for flats is not separately available, therefore the details provided relate to all two room accommodation (ie one bedroom and one living room). The Local Reference Rent is specific to an individual property and is meant to reflect the general level of rent for properties of the same size in the locality. In order to arrive at a single figure, an average has been calculated. Rent Officers are required to determine rents based on the size and type of accommodation in a locality which may be different to a local authority area and localities could also cross local authority boundaries.
