Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland, how many children in Scotland who are registered with local authorities are registered on the Child Protection Register; and if he will make a statement. - Including figures.

Answer: Mr. Cox: To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many children in Scotland who are registered with local authorities are registered on the Child Protection Register; and if he will make a statement. [85087] Mr. Macdonald: Child Protection Registers are maintained in all local authority areas in Scotland. It is estimated that on 31 March 1998, a total of 2,236 children were recorded on these Registers. From 1 July 1999, this will be a matter for the Scottish Parliament.
