- To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, what plans he has to introduce legislation to make the giving of false trade references a criminal offence in Scotland.

Mr. Gorrie: To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what plans he has to introduce legislation to make the giving of false trade references a criminal offence in Scotland. [140075] Dr. Howells: I have no plans for such legislation. It would already be a criminal offence under the Trade Descriptions Act 1968 for a trader knowingly or recklessly to mislead by misdescribing goods or services.
