Sir Teddy Taylor: To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what total tonnage of fruit and vegetables was destroyed under EU regulations in 2000. [151409] Ms Quin: Provisional figures show that just over 1,300,000 tonnes of fruit and vegetables were withdrawn from the EU market in 2000. Some 10,000 tonnes were withdrawn in the UK, 10 per cent. of which was used for animal feed distributed free.
