Answer

Mr. Marshall-Andrews: To ask the Minister of State, Lord Chancellor's Department if he will list incidents of (a) fraud and (b) gross mismanagement reported or referred to (i) his Department and (ii) HM Magistrates' Courts' Inspectorate relating to (1) payments by and (2) funding of the Kent Magistrates' Courts' Committee from 1 January 1996 to date. [72655] Mr. Hoon: One potential incident has been reported in respect of the Kent MCC. It has not yet been resolved. There have been exchanges between the Department, the Magistrates' Courts' Inspectorate, the Magistrates' Court Committee and the paying authority and advice has been given and recommendations made. What further action is needed will depend on decisions by the MCC and the paying authority in the light of legal advice they have taken.
