Mr. Cann: To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what action his Department has taken to maintain the size of the United Kingdom's merchant fleet. [64528] Ms Glenda Jackson: A shipping policy paper-- "British Shipping: Charting a new course"--was published by the Deputy Prime Minister on 16 December. This sets out the Government's strategy for revitalising the British merchant fleet.
