Question: To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, if he has calculated the effect on pig meat exports of the introduction of a vaccination against foot and mouth disease. (Holding answer 26 April 2001).

Answer: Mrs. Shephard: To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he has calculated the effect on pigmeat exports of the introduction of a vaccination against foot and mouth disease. [158882] Mr. Morley: [holding answer 26 April 2001]: It is difficult to predict the effects of a vaccination programme on pigmeat exports. Given the scale of the outbreak we have suffered, we can expect that other countries will want to be satisfied that the disease has been fully stamped out. This will be the position whether we vaccinate or not.
