Mr. Derek Twigg: To ask the Secretary of State for Health what the average earnings of a general practitioner in England and Wales was in (a) 1992, (b) 1996 and (c) 2000. [157840] Mr. Denham: The table shows General Practitioners' (unrestricted principals) intended average net income for the provision of general medical services. Figures are for Great Britain. The figure shown is the weighted average for the year. GPs also received additional earnings from higher target payments, as follows: 1992-93 £2,338 (gross), 1996-97 £3,330 (gross), and 2000-01 £3,975 (gross).
