Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, if the Foreign Office assessment of claims for compensation prior to the transmission of such claims to the United Nations Compensation Commission was taken with the approval of the United Nations Compensation Commission.

Answer: Mr. Alan Campbell: To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if the Foreign Office assessment of claims for compensation prior to the transmission of such claims to the United Nations Compensation Commission was taken with the approval of the United Nations Compensation Commission. [151907] Mr. Wilson: The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has not and does not assess claims prior to their transmission to the UN Compensation Commission. However, as the FCO was aware that the Commission had set a number of basic conditions that had to be met before claims could be accepted, claims were checked prior to dispatch to ensure that they met the known conditions.
