Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills, How many assaults there have been on teachers employed by education authorities in the Greater London area in each of the last three years. (Failed OPQ). - Inc figures.

Answer: Mr. Tom Cox: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills, how many assaults there have been on teachers employed by education authorities in the Greater London area in each of the last three years. [75297] Stephen Twigg: The Department does not collect this information. However, figures for the whole of Great Britain provided by the Health and Safety Executive show that 135 teachers received injuries as a result of assault in 1999-2000 and also in 2000-01. There are no figures available yet for 2001-02.
