Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills, What plans she has to promote engineering as a career; and if she will make a statement. (Failed OPQ)

Answer: Mr. Gordon Prentice: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills what plans she has to promote engineering as a career; and if she will make a statement. [40731] Mr. Ivan Lewis: The Government recognise the importance of engineering to the success of our economy. To this end we have just launched a new science and engineering ambassadors programme as part of Science Year. In addition, we have recently announced a new campaign to promote modern apprenticeships to young people and employers. Currently the engineering manufacturing sector has the largest number of young people undertaking advanced modern apprenticeship training.
