Foreign and Commonwealth Office

Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, if he will make a statement on relations between Sudan and Eritrea.
Answer

Mr. Drew: To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on relations between Sudan and Eritrea. [79385] Mr. Rammell: Relations between Sudan and Eritrea were formally restored in January 2000. Recent tension caused by fighting in eastern Sudan has affected relations between the two countries. But this has eased since the signing on 17 October of a Memorandum of Understanding on a cessation of hostilities between the Government of Sudan and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army.
