Mr. Jim Cunningham: To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many casualty units have been modernised since 1997. [57525] Ms Blears: [holding answer 22 May 2002]: The accident and emergency (A&E) modernisation programme was launched in 1998. A total of £150 million has been invested enabling 180 A&E departments to be modernised.
