Mr. Francois: To ask the Secretary of State for Health what the vacancy figure for NHS general practitioners in Essex was on 1 September. [139520] Dr. Ladyman: It is not possible to give vacancy statistics on a particular date. However, I am informed that there are currently 157 vacancies for general practitioners in the Essex Strategic Health Authority area as at 31 March 2003, for which these are the latest figures available.
