Question: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what guidance his Department has given to electoral registration officers about allowing the annual registration process to be used as means of increasing organ donors; and if he will make a statement.

Answer: Mr. Hancock: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what guidance his Department has given to electoral registration officers about allowing the annual registration process to be used as means of increasing organ donors; and if he will make a statement. [130203] Mr. Leslie: I have been asked to reply. My Department has issued no recent guidance to electoral registration officers (EROs) on this subject. I am aware, however, that the independent Electoral Commission issued advice to EROs on 22 July 2003 which, while recognising the independence and responsibility of individual EROs, set out the Commission's view that additional material unrelated to electoral issues should not be included with registration forms.
