- To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, if she will list the inquiries that her Department made into the auditing standards of Arthur Andersen as a result of the Enron case.

Mr. Austin Mitchell: To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if she will list the inquiries that her Department made into the auditing standards of Arthur Andersen as a result of the Enron case. [100544] Miss Melanie Johnson: The Department has made no such enquiries. The Joint Monitoring Unit of the Consultative Committee of Accounting Bodies and the ACCA Monitoring Unit are currently responsible for monitoring audit firms. Arrangements for monitoring and disciplining audit firms are to be strengthened as a result of the recent Review of the Regulatory Regime of the Accountancy Profession. Copies of the Review Report have been placed in the Libraries of the House.
