To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, what applications have been received by the Export Credit Guarantees Department relating to (a) mining projects and (b) logging operations in the last 12 months. - Inc figures.
Answer

Mr. Simon Thomas: To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what applications have been received by the Export Credit Guarantees Department relating to (a) mining projects and (b) logging operations in the last 12 months. [88074] Ms Hewitt: During 2002 the Export Credits Guarantee Department has received two applications relating to mining projects and none for logging operations. One of the applications relates to the modernisation and improvement of existing underground coal mining operations in India and the second to a nickel refinery project in the Russian Federation. ECGD does not disclose more detailed information on applications prior to guarantee issue for reasons of commercial confidentiality.
