Question: To ask the Deputy Prime Minister, what plans he has (a) to license houses in multiple occupation and (b) to introduce a new housing, health and safety system.

Answer: Mrs. Calton: To ask the Deputy Prime Minister what plans he has (a) to license houses in multiple occupation and (b) to introduce a new housing, health and safety system. [88548] Mr. McNulty: As announced in the Queen's Speech, the Government intend to publish a draft Housing Bill this session. The Bill will make clear our commitment to introduce the mandatory licensing of houses in multiple occupation and to replace the existing housing fitness regime with the evidence-based Housing Health and Safety Rating System. Taken together, these measures will target poor property condition and management standards in the parts of the housing market that accommodate some of the most vulnerable in our society.
