Answer: Mr. David Marshall: To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what plans he has to improve (a) maintenance, (b) signage and (c) markings on (i) trunk roads and (ii) motorways; and if he will make a statement. [197649] Mr. Jamieson: This Government have made the maintenance of trunk roads and motorways in England their first investment priority for strategic roads. The Highways Agency aims to carry out the right maintenance treatment at the right time in order to minimise costs and delays to traffic. Signage and markings are maintained in accordance with the Highways Agency's standards and guidance, which are kept under review.
