Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, what assessment she has made of the merits of giving employment tribunals power to enforce awards they make; and if she will make a statement. - Inc ref to White Paper "Transforming Public Services: Complaints Redress and Tribunals".

Answer: Helen Jones: To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what assessment she has made of the merits of giving employment tribunals power to enforce awards they make; and if she will make a statement. [194353] Mr. Leslie: I have been asked to reply. The White Paper "Transforming Public Services:Complaints Redress and Tribunals", published in July, contains a commitment that the current unsatisfactory arrangements for enforcing these awards will be reformed. A review between the Department for Constitutional Affairs and the Department of Trade and Industry is already under way, and we hope to make an announcement early in 2005.
