Answer: Mr. Keith Bradley: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills how many children in the City of Manchester receive free transport to school provided by Manchester city council. [196908] Mr. Stephen Twigg: We do not routinely collect that information. However a joint survey of school transport policies, expenditure and pupil numbers transported, conducted in 2003 by DfES and the Confederation of Education Service Managers (ConfEd), reported the following for Manchester local education authority. Number of pupils receiving free or assisted home-to-school transport by category--Manchester local education authority _________________________________________________________________________________________________.
