Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, if the Government will urge the European Commission to examine the legality of entry by merchant shipping of an EU state into part of an EU member state's territory where it is not possible to enforce the acquis communautaire; and if he will make a statement.

Answer: Andrew Mackinlay: To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if the Government will urge the European Commission to examine the legality of entry by merchant shipping of an EU state into part of an EU member state's territory where it is not possible to enforce the acquis communautaire; and if he will make a statement. [190480] Mr. MacShane: The Government does not believe that there is an issue over the legality of a merchant ship flying the flag of an EU Member State entering part of another Member State's territory where the acquis communautaire is not applied.
