Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland, pursuant to his evidence to the Scottish Affairs Select Committee on 29th June, what steps he has taken to improve the performance of his Department in responding to correspondence.

Answer: Mr. Peter Duncan: To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland pursuant to his evidence to the Scottish Affairs Select Committee on 29 June, what steps he has taken to improve the performance of his Department in responding to correspondence. [186380] Mrs. McGuire: The Scotland Office annual report shows that from April 2003 to March 2004 the 15-day target for responding to correspondence was met in 81 per cent. of cases. Internal monitoring procedures are in place to ensure that the 15-day performance target is achieved where possible.
